CRU-DataPort teams with official lead photographer of the International Fencing Federation, a member of the International Olympic Committee
Vancouver, WA — July 27, 2012 — As the world's best athletes train for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Serge Timachef is preparing his photography equipment to capture the most memorable moments in these athletes' lives. Sports photographers take more photos in one shoot than most professional photographers, making the need for high volume, secure storage and backup a key component to the digital workflow. "Storing images in the field, getting it safely home and having it secure yet easily accessible are some of the biggest challenges for international photographers. Serge Timachef has taken over a million high-resolution images of world class fencing in the last decade, including three Olympic Games, several dozen world championships and grand prix events. He manages all the photographs as an archived, historical visual documentary in the event customers or editors are interested in obtaining virtually any photo in his library. The two products Serge uses are ToughTech™ Duo and RTX™220-QR portable RAID systems that accept 2.5-3.5 inch drives (respectively) in TrayFree™ bays and support multiple interface options (FireWire 400/800, eSATA, and USB 2.0/3.0). Serge brings multiple mirrored sets of drives on location containing archived photographs and enough empty space to fill with new images. After shooting, he provides one of the drives to the International Fencing Federation and International Olympic Committee to take back to their offices in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the drives are mirrored to the drives on their ToughTech Duos or RTX storage enclosures. This method ensures the images are securely archived in the studio and headquarters while retaining full data integrity.
