CRU-DataPort Announces the New ToughTech™ Secure Q Enclosure with Encryption

Vancouver, WA — May 4, 2010 — The popular ToughTech storage enclosure now includes government-strength encryption and stores up to 2 TBs on 3 1⁄2” SATA HDDs with the new ToughTech Secure Q. With built-in 128 bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), the FIPS approved encryption standard, this enclosure is portable and incredibly easy to use. The encryption technology of the ToughTech Secure Q protects intellectual property and client privacy (i.e.; financial and medical records) and is best suited in government, medical, education, and Pro A/V markets. The TT S-Q enclosure is available with base units starting at $189.00 MSRP.

ToughTech Secure Q guarantees full-disk hardware based encryption without degradation of performance. If your drive is lost or stolen, no one will be able to view its contents without the proper AES Encryption Key. The ability to remove the key after power up helps keep your physical key safe. The encryption key is smaller than a standard thumb drive and easily fits on a keychain or lanyard. ToughTech Secure Q comes with 3 identical keys that may be kept for personal use or stored in a safe location on or off-site. These keys are completely unique with 2128 possible ways to encode.

If you wish to create or copy your own keys due to security protocols demanding tighter control, CRU offers the AES Encryption Key Programmer. We do not retain copies or records of preprogrammed keys provided to customers. There are also situations where more than 3 keys are needed, which include granting access to more than one person. Lastly, we're aware of circumstances where encryption keys must change at regular intervals.

ToughTech Secure Q connects to almost any computer via dual FireWire 800 (backwards compatible to FireWire 400), eSATA and USB 2.0 ports. As a result, ToughTech Secure Q connects to any computer running any recent operating system, including Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista, and 7, as well as any distribution of Linux. To ensure a connection in any situation, all appropriate cables and adapters are included.
